The next construction stage of the Verona Road (US 18/151) Project will start Tuesday, September 6 on roadways in Fitchburg, in advance of the expansion on Verona Road from Raymond Road south to County PD (McKee Road). This fall’s reconstruction work will occur at the following locations:
Temporary widening will occur on Verona Road, from Fitchrona Road to Williamsburg Way, and will be used for future traffic staging. Nighttime grading and paving operations are expected in this area. Two lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction on Verona Road, especially during peak travel times. Nighttime single lane closures will occur on Verona Road in this area between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Nesbitt Road will be closed to through traffic beyond Limestone Lane, but will remain accessible to businesses within the work zone. Motorists will be required to use alternate local routes, and temporary directional signage will be provided. Nesbitt Road is being reconstructed to accommodate the future widening of Verona Road (US 18/151) and the interchange ramp at County PD, as well as upgrade the utilities in this area (i.e., storm sewer, water main, etc.).
The Williamsburg Way and Anton Drive intersection will be reconstructed into a single lane roundabout to improve safety and efficiency due to the close proximity of Verona Road and those future improvements. Williamsburg Way will remain open to traffic during the staged construction. This section of roadway will be an active work zone, and motorists are reminded to slow down and be alert for crews and equipment in this area. Anton Drive will also remain open to traffic, except for a two-week closure near the intersection which is currently anticipated in late September. Motorists will be required to use alternate local routes during this time, and access to area businesses and residences will be maintained.
Also this fall, crews anticipate to reconstruct the East Frontage Road, between Williamsburg Way and Chalet Gardens Road, and local business access will be maintained.
Access to area businesses and neighborhoods will remain open throughout construction. The public is encouraged to continue to patronize area businesses in the project area.
All work operations and lane closures are weather dependent and subject to change. These initial construction projects are scheduled to be completed in mid-November 2016. Stage 2 construction for the Verona Road Project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2020.
